JANAKPURDHAM: Police today made public preliminary findings of an investigation into the April 30 Janakpur blast, and named the alleged mastermind behind the incident.

An explosive device, which could be remotely detonated, was fitted on to a metal pipe to carry out the attack, said local police.

“Mukesh Singh, the brains behind the blasts, had sent a text message, using the number 9814704459, to Jay Prakash Chaudhary to plant the explosives on a chair,” said police. Police said reports show that Mukesh Singh planned the blasts and his accomplices were Prakash and Arjun (Santosh) Chaudhary, affiliated with the Akhil Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Rajn Mukti Group) –– an underground outfit. Officials have made public four persons: Jay Prakash Chaudhary –– who planted the bomb, Suresh Kumar Karna, Ripendra Jha and Mukesh Kumar Karna for their involvement in the explosion at Ramananda chowk in Janakpur.

Officials also made public 11 mobile phone sets, wires and a gun used by the group.

DIG Upendrakant Aryal, chief of Central Intelligence Bureau, said the mastermind behind the explosion was still at large.

Aryal claimed that Jivan Nath Chaudhary, a staffer at District Development Committee, was also involved in the incident. Police said that they would seek help from Interpol and neighbouring countries to arrest the culprit.
