BHAKTAPUR: The organisers of the country-wide shutdown torched a passenger bus at Lokanthali, Bhaktapur early Friday morning.
The banda organisers stopped the passenger bus of Nepal Yatayat (registration number Ba 1 Kha 7324) at 4:45 a.m. today at Lokanthali and set it on fire. The bus was going towards Balkumari from Kaushaltar.
Five people standing on the roadside ordered the driver to stop the bus and three of them picked up a verbal quarrel with him while the remaining two got on the bus sprinkled petrol and set the bus ablaze, said Padma Bahadur Jirel, the bus driver.
The people identified themselves as activists of the Chure Bhawar Ekata Party before fleeing the scene, Jirel said.
A fire engine of the Bhaktapur Municipality that arrived at the scene half an hour later doused the fire. The bus has been gutted by the fire.
Vehicular movement in Bhaktapur was disrupted for a hour after the arson attack. Traffic resumed after one hour of the incident.
