Aussie envoy inaugurates irrigation pond

NUWAKOT: Australian ambassador Susan Grace inaugurated an irrigation pond constructed at Ratmate, a Rai settlement, in Nuwakot district.

Speaking at a function after inaugurating the pond, Ms. Grace expressed happiness over the progress made by the local people through the support of the small enterprises development programme.

The irrigation pond has been built at Gahirigaon in Ratmate-9.

The irrigation pond has been constructed to irrigate the vegetable that the local women have cultivated with the cooperation provided by the small enterprise development programme.

Inspired by the enthusiasm seen among the local women and the changes that the programme has brought in their lives, the Australian ambassador pledged further assistance for conducting the programme in a more effective manner in the coming days.

Local Development Officer Rudra Singh Tamang said the irrigation pond has been constructed with the assistance of the District Development Committee for supporting the livelihood of the people of this backward settlement.

The pond can store 725,000 litres of water and it has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.3 million. It will irrigate over 300 ropanis of land.
