KATHMANDU: Acting Chief of the Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana is all set to assume office on Thursday.
As the incumbent Chief of the Army Staff Gen Chhatra Man Singh Gurung is going on a customary leave from August 10, Rana is taking office from today.
President Ram Baran Yadav, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army, designated Gaurav Shumsher Junga Bahadur Rana as the Acting Chief of the Army Staff, effective from August 9 as per the recommendation of the Cabinet. A Cabinet meeting on August 1 had decided to recommend the Head of the State to promote Lt Gen Rana as Acting Chief of the army.
Rana will replace Gurung after the latter completes his one month long customary leave on September 8.
Gurung will retire in September.
