KATHMANDU: Samir Acharya won the title of the Everest Hotel Cup Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) today.
Acharya, playing with 14-handicap allowance, scored 39 points to force a tie with overnight leader Capt Hem Bahadur Thapa, who had completed his round on Friday. The winner was declared on count back — last six holes — after both the players scored 20 on the front nine and 19 on the latter half.
Tashi Ghale, who scored 37 points, won the best gross and the most birdies awards. Capt Suman Limbu claimed the senior section trophy with 33 points, ahead of Capt Mani Lal Thapa. Likewise, Kalpana Limbu (34) and Nayan Bista (29) claimed the top two spots in the women’s section.
Other winners of the two-day event sponsored by Everest Hotel were Rabin Rana (longest drive), Sandhya Rai (closest to the pin) and Ryu Yong Lyel (best sportsmanship).
A total of 85 players took part in the tournament which was played under stableford 3/4 handicap format. Out of that, 25 golfers had completed their rounds on Friday.
Director of Hotel Everest Hotel Mikhail Lari, Genneral Manager Jayesh Cholera and RNGC President Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha gave away the prizes to the winners.
