RAUTAHAT: Dhan Bahadur Shrestha of Kanakpur VDC who was abducted four days ago has been released today, police said.

An unknown gang abducted Shrestha from Dhanshar forest along the East-West highway, while he was returning home from Kathmandu, last Friday.

A police team headed by Chakra Bahadur Singh rescued him from near the Chadi River of Chandranigapur, when the abductors had come to take ransom from the victim’s family, SP Thule Rai said.

However, the abductors left Shrestha and fled the place when they saw the police, SP Rai said.

According to Shrestha, the abductors had assaulted him while he was kept hostage. He has sustained injury on his hand and stomach.

The abductors demanded Rs 1 million ransom at first, but later agreed to release him for Rs 300,000, the family sources said.

Shrestha was handed over to his family amid a press meet organised at the District Police Office today. Police have started searching the culprits, said SP Rai.
