BHAKTAPUR: Adarsha Vidhya Mandir (AVM) secured the semi-final berth after defending a low total against Galaxy Public School in the third Chief of the Army Staff Inter-school Running Cricket Tournament here at the Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya grounds today.
Put into to bat first after losing the toss, AVM were all out for a meagre 95 runs in the penultimate ball of the Twenty20 match. In reply, Galaxy could only muster 57 in 15.1 overs.
AVM advanced to the last four as Group B winners after winning their all three league matches. Brihaspati Vidhyasadan,Bright Future and Galaxy — who all lost against AVM — will battle it out for the second place to qualify for the semi-finals from the group.
Man-of-the-match Dibash Luitel top scored with 27 runs for AVM. Dibash’s 37-ball knock included just one boundary. Bishwojeet Shah (17), Rojwol Karmacharya (14) and Shreegesh Shakya (10) also chipped in valuable runs to the AVM total. Saugat Biset was the pick of the Galaxy bowlers with 2-17 from four overs. Pasang Sherpa, Nirajan Shakya and Niraj Adhikari also bagged one wicket apiece.
Galaxy’s run chase was cut short in the 16th over thanks to the disciplined AVM bowling attack. Abin Shakya, Anupam Karki, Umang Pradhan and Shreegesh all claimed two wickets each for AVM to restrict Galaxy below 60 runs. Niraj Adhikari was the highest run scorer for Galaxy, scoring run-a-ball 13. Nirnaya Baral contributed seven, the second best Galaxy contributor with the bat.
