KANCHANPUR: The swollen Doda River has washed away over 10 bigahas of rice fields at Dekhatbhuli VDC, following continuous rainfall for four days.
The river gushed into and eroded the rice fields of more than 50 families in the locality. With this, these families have lost their land and are on the verge of displacement.
The river has also eroded swathes of land in many places as Baiwaha, Kunda, Andhrajala, Tilaki and Jai downstream.
Houses and paddy fields of over 30 families in Dekhatbhuli VDC are at risk of erosion. The river has also eroded the rural road leading to the village.
One hundred and thirty five families have been displaced from the village over the last five years due to the flooding by the Doda River. Of them, 60 families have been living in temporary sheds constructed on public land alsong the East-West highway.
