KATHMANDU: More than 400 cyclists today took part in a bicycle rally organised to promote the use of bicycles for a pollution-free green city.
The rally, that started today morning at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur, ended at Basantapur of Kathmandu. The rally was organised by a youth group belonging to Team for Nature and Wildlife.
World cyclist Pushkar Shah and former environment Minister Ganesh Shah also took part in it.
The organisers had set up their target to make Kathmandu a cycle-friendly city by 2020.
"The pollution in our city is increasing phenomenally due to increasing number of motor vehicles belching smokes.
Everyone should start using bicycle to minimise pollution," said Shah, Nepali cyclist, who had travelled 150 countries on cycle taking about 12 years.
“Cycling is also the best medicine for a healthier living. So I request all of you to ride cycle at least once a week," he added.
“Cycling is one best option to make our city clean," said Abhisekh Shrestha, a member of the organising team.
Shrestha said the younger generation is increasingly enthusiastic about the promotion of cycles and is concerned about the environmental pollution.
