KATHMANDU: Himal Shrestha, a 17-year-old A level student of Chelsea Academy, has won the highest tech award for being the best in Microsoft Excel 2010 in the Global Microsoft Office Specialist Championship.
Scoring a perfect 1000/1000 in Excel 2010, Shrestha brought the honour for Nepa. In a press statement, Microsoft Innovation Centre, Nepal said it had sponsored Shrestha to go to the US to represent Nepal in the Global MOS Championship. It said that initially 285,000 candidates from 53 countries had competed to demonstrate their talent in the handling of Microsoft Office products, of which 113 students qualified for the final round of competition.
Certiport in association with Microsoft adjudged Shrestha the best at the Worldwide Competition on Microsoft Office Student Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC, USA and presented him a $5,000 scholarship. The competition was held from July 31 to August 3.
Allen Baiochan Tuladhar, country director, MIC Nepal, said, “We are very happy and consider ourselves fortunate to be able to provide this opportunity to the youth of Nepal. Himal has proved that Nepali kids can prove their mettle in global platform too.”
