13 persons disappeared from Baitadi VDCs during conflict

The UCPN-Maoist is marking the 17th anniversary of the People's War by organising different programs. However‚ the families of the forcefully disappeared and conflict victims have complained that the sacrifices made by the dear ones were not respected.

BAITADI: Thirteen people have been disappearing from adjoining Basuling and Bhauneli VDCs in Baitadi district during the decade-long insurgency. A total of 27 persons were forcefully disappeared by the State and then rebel from the district.


District Administration Office (DAO) has just started distributing Rs 100,000 each to the families of people forcefully disappeared during the conflict that started on February 13, 1996.

The DAO office said that seven persons have been missing from Ward no. 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9 of Basuling VDC.


Similarly, six persons were forcefully disappeared from Bhauneli VDC.


Though the DAO distributed relief to the families of 27 persons, only 15 persons have come into contact in the district Red Cross Office.
