TANSEN: The number of tourists – both domestic and foreign – has gone up with the onset of winter in Palpa.
The rise in the number of tourists has stepped up the transactions of hotels and restaurants in Palpa of late. It is learnt that the domestic tourists come to visit Palpa on an educational tour while the Indian, Chinese, Thai and American nationals come to visit this place for sight-seeing and refreshment, which reminds one of Darjeeling of West Bengal of India.
Tourists from Gorakhpur, Lucknow and northern Indian states come to visit Pokhara via Palpa and those from overseas come to Pokhara through Lumbini. They make at least an overnight stop at Tansen in Palpa, said Rajendra Bahadur Shrestha, Executive Officer of Tansen Municipality.
The records kept by the hotels and restaurants show that at least 1000 domestic and 150 foreign tourists visit this place everyday even though the Palpa Tourism Development Committee and non-government organisations working in this area are still in the dark about it.
Chairman of Palpa Tourism Development Committee Tikaram Ghimire, who is also Chief District Officer of Palpa district, said, “Despite my frequent appeals, the District Development Committee is not up to the mark in keeping the records of the number of tourists visiting this place.”
Palpa Industry and Commerce Association Chairman Madhudayal Sainju complained about the local bodies for not cooperating with their effort of promoting tourism in Palpa and blamed them for not using the budget in the proper sector.
