Rapti floods wreak havoc in Deukhuri

As many as 2000 houses were inundated and 30 were collapsed by the Rapti floods triggered by the incessant rainfalls in Deukhuri on Thursday, July 19, 2012.

DANG: Over 2000 houses were inundated and 30 of them have been collapsed in Deukhuri due to the swollen Rapti River triggered by the incessant rainfall overnight.

Out of the three VDCs – Sonapur VDC, Lalmatiya VDC and Sisahaniya VDC – Sisahania VDC has been badly affected where 25 non-concrete houses have been collapsed, said Madhusudhan Burlakoti, Chief District Officer of Dang district.

In the flood, one elderly has been injured and some cattle have been killed. The injured has been rushed to Lamahi-based hospital for treatment.

Wards 1, 2, 3, 4 of Sonapur VDC, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 of Lalmatiya VDC and wards 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 of Sisahaniya VDC have been hit by the floods.

The locals had saved their lives by fleeing to the rooftops of their respective houses, said Madhusudhan Adhikari, Chief District Officer, Dang.

Armed Police, Civil Police and Nepali Army personnel have been deployed to rescue the flood victims, said Ganesh Bahadur Air, Chief of District Police Office, Dang.

This is the worst flood ever since 2018 BS, according to locals.
