BAJHANG: The Badi community in Bajhang district has announced an agitation demanding bread and butter.
Badis of Tharala said they have no alternative than to go on strike as they were struggling to eke out a living.
Badi leader Madan Badi said they handed over a memorandum to the District Administration Office on Saturday by coming to the district headquarters, Chainpur, on foot walking a day. “The Badi settlement at Tharala is at risk of a landslide. The Badi families are waiting for immediate rehabilitation in safer places.”
An elderly Badi man, Dille Badi, who came to the district to join hands with members of his community for the agitation, said Badis were unable to keep the wolf from the door amid grinding poverty they have been facing. “We want land, house and work.”
Around 500 people of 60 Badi families are living in Chainpur and Tharala in the district. The Badis of Chainpur have expressed their solidarity with the stir launched by their colleagues of Tharala.
