2 killed, 24 injured in Barah Mela

SAPTARI: Two pilgrims were killed while attending a festival on the occasion of Haribodhani Ekadashi in Baraha area in Sunsari on Monday.

According to Mahendra Nagar Area Police Post, the deceased have been identified as Dev Narayan Yadav, 70, of Amarpur Saptari and Indian national Laxmi Sah, 55, of Supaul. The police believe that they died due to the cold.

The festival is celebrated from Kartik Sukla Ekadashi to Purnima in Barah area. Pilgrims come from all over Nepal and India in thousands. Dense crowds extend over an eight kilometre area from Chatara to Baraha. A total of nearly four lakh people celebrate the Mela.
