'Govt may face Gyanendra fate'

THT Online

ILAM: The government’s fate would be no different from that of deposed king Gyanendra’s should it follow the path of suppression and intimidation against the Unified CPN-Maoist, warned its chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday.

Addressing a mass meet in the eastern district of Ilam, Dahal warned the government ministers to refrain from intimidating his party the way the ministers of the dethroned king’s direct rule had done, or else meet a similar end.

The former prime minister said it is the people who would decide the fate of the country. On the party’s ongoing second phase of its nationwide stir, he claimed the agitation has been gaining an impetus with a considerable public participation.

Referring to the Defence Minister’s public statement she made just a few days back, the Maoist supremo said the process of army integration has lost its momentum because of the lack of the government’s commitment to the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA).

Earlier Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari had publicly said some of the CPA clauses had to be reviewed in the present context.
