Real Democracy in Nepal

 PAWAN RAJ PHUYAL

Nepal is one of the sovereign states in the history of the world. Nobody occupied this small Himalayan territory. It’s also called the third pole of the world and the people of Nepal rejoice and take pride in such a glorious location. Our ancestors fought courageously with the foreign emperors to protect our glory and history. We remember the bravery of our Brave Gorkhas at Nalapani to Tista. Also we have to salute the initiative of unification of the “Greater Nepal” by King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Our modern Nepal is the souvenir from our ancestors.

In modern Nepal we are spending the interest of our ancestors. Now we have to bow down our head towards them if we evaluate our present speed and performance. It is proved by our position and approach, performance and curiosity to take the nation next to the 21st century world.

Especially, after the abolition of the ruthless Rana regime Nepalese people have experienced the exercise of so-called democracy. We breathed fresh air but still after 60 years of the long walk we have not enjoyed the real democracy. People are given rights only on paper not in practice. Poor people are always under the poverty line. Only a few of those so-called high class people are taking control over the people’s liberties and human rights. The political leaders are taking oath on behalf of the people elected by the people but doing everything for their own sake.

In the name of democracy poor Nepalese have already fought three great revolutions including the ten year armed “People’s War”. In 2007 BS we established the people’s democracy for the first time in modern history against Rana monarch, in 2047 BS to restore partial democracy detained by king Mahendra since 2017 BS and in 2063/64 BS power of people abolished the 238 years long Shah monarchy and established again the Republic which ended the 10 years “People’s War” conducted by the Maoist rebels. People voted first time for the Constitution Assembly Election in history to reassure the Real Democracy. People were expecting more and more but in fact they got nothing more than trouble, scarcity, shortage, inflation, obstacle and poverty. Even the fundamental necessities of people were not guaranteed yet.

Only the political changes can’t gratify the people’s hope. In case of Nepal every change by the power of people has benefited only a few number of so-called political leaders. They are not at all responsible for the general public and it is proved now by their activities. They are blaming each other of every wrong doing and want to take responsibilities of affirmative changes. They are creating unstable circumstances and ‘fishing’. They do not agree to the others' ideas. They are not giving the chances to the intellectual with right vision too. They are writing the democracy in paper and running toward the chair and power.

In this situation what about the people’s verdict? Where is the real democracy and when will it arrive? How long will people have to fight for that? The answer ruins within the silence. Under this situation people are under the psychological effect. They are becoming fruitless, unaided and unstable minded.

Thousands of Nepalese youths are leaving the country now for food and clothes advertising themselves in the cheapest price in the deserts of the world. Not even a single needle can be produced in the country. We have to seek others assistance for clean water being the 2nd richest country in the world in water resource. Political leaders swell cheap slogans against the foreign countries like India and America. But we have to depend almost totally on them to exist. They are trying to interfere in our internal matters unwanted and using us according to their interest because of our own weaknesses.

In this situation Nepalese people are again in a great enigma about what the problem is and where the solution is. We all are responsible for that but the unwillingness of the political leaders is more responsible in creating these situations.

Now it is clear that the time has come to preserve the democracy and establish the people’s rights and develop the foundation of new economic policy to build the new Nepal using the huge amount of natural resources and useful manpower.

Only the political changes can’t develop a country. A well designed Economic revolution is required in Nepal.

We know we have an enormous amount of natural resources like thousands of rivers, lakes, beautiful hills and highest mountains, variety of biodiversity, medicines and lots of minerals. Also we are richest in historical and cultural varieties felicitated with plucky and hard working manpower. But we don’t have proper knowledge and proper campaign to execute it with a proficient leadership and appropriate vision for the progress of the country.

Since our country’s economy is almost totally dependent on agriculture we must first solve the tribulations interrelated to the land. Still thousands of people are there without land. No scientific researches and modern technologies are used in the agricultural system. For that the first step is to set a new land reform policy.

Secondly, we can give the precedence to tourism development using the everlasting natural resources. We can produce skillful manpower through the proper education scheme making free, practical scientific and technical.

Now we find one of the major problem in relation to the two rapidly developing economies India and China. Especially some controversial and unbalancing treaties, issues of encroachment with Indo-Nepal border are in more debate and one of the major political agenda of main political parties. To resolve these kinds of problems first we should be strong and confident, until and unless they take these issues seriously. When we are economically strong and become more self dependent then only India will be ready to discuss about the diplomatic issues of bilateral interest.

Therefore, Nepalese people want self dependency through economic revolution first not only the unstable political modification. And we can experience the real democracy in Nepal for the first time in history. To meet the challenging ambition we need to come up with unity and graspable vision for building the nation. We need to take the oath joining hands together. Political parties and their leaders must think about the nation not only for themselves. Poor people are waiting for a hero to be born to speed up the incomplete peace process and mission of building new Nepal with a campaign of absolute framework of socio-economic transformation. Then only we will be grateful to our brave ancestors who saved our dignity and prosperity. Or else we will always be living worthlessly spending the interest of our ancestors without our own identity.

The reality is the opposite. The fact is that, in its history of over 240 years, Nepal never gained full independence. On way or other, it has been the client state of imperial Britain and for the past 60 years it is the colony of Indian Imperils State. The reason for this status quo lays in the fact that one section of Nepali politicians and statesmen aspire for independent and sovereign Nepal. Bahadur Shah, Kalu Pandey and Amar Singh Thapa, Bhim Sen Thapa and their supporters were such statesmen and politicians of the past. King Birendra was such a statesman. On the other hand, there is another section of Nepali politicians that function in Nepal with the economic and military support of outside power and they are happy to serve their masters else where than to serve their motherland and their country men and women. Rajya laxmi, Janga bahadur Kuwar and his successors, Pandit Gajadhar Misra who signed the trity of Sugauli in 1818, Tribhuwan Shah, BP Koirala and the regime of the Koiralits belong to the latter group of politicians. And, in this irony of power struggle both the fate of Nepal and the dreams of economic prosperity of Nepali people are decided and destroyed, respectively. The fact is that, as soon as Prithivi Narayan Shah passed away, these two forces started to fight for power in Kathmandu. And, the sole reason of this infighting lies in the economic and social privilege that come with it. Besides Prithivi Narayan Shah, Bahadur Shah and those couple of Pandays and Thapas no politicians cared for the economic plight of the people of the great Himalayas. And, irony is that, historically, the traitors and foreign agents such as Janga bahadur rana, BP Koirala and the Koiralist Regime has always been victorious inn the infighting.

democracy in nepal. that is a ridiculous supposition for all the 27 plus spitting prima donnas that occupy the seats of power in the nc. come off it. dont be a fool the air is too thin for nepalese who in their bumbling psychotic way seem to continue to exist in spite of the movie 2010 and the palace massacre. even the kamal dahal prachanda is corruptible. one must face reality above all things even in the dark and blackouts.
