|Miss Nepal '12 contestants visit Maiti Nepal|
Achyut Nepal, Information Officer at Maiti Nepal, informed them about the human trafficking situation in Nepal, its effect on the victims and the women and girls rescued so far through a power-point presentation.
The contestants interacted with Anuradha Koirala, Founder/Director of Maiti Nepal where Koirala encouraged them to get involved in social work even after the beauty pageant. She also gave suggestions on how the contestants could form a lobby between the government and victims. The contestants also got to know about the condition of girls who had been victims of trafficking and the difficulties they faced before beings rescued.
They also visited the various sections of Maiti Nepal and interacted with the children there. Some of the contestants got emotional on learning about how those innocent children happened to reach Maiti Nepal.
Sonam Singh, one of the contestants expressed, “It’s an experience of life for me and I got to know lots of things that have inspired me to work in a similar field. And interacting with Anuradha Koirala is like dream come true for me.”
Echoing similar thoughts, another contestant Subeksha Khadka stated, “I was relieved to see smiles on the faces of the children here and I felt that I have to do something for them.” Bharat Rai, co-coordinator of the training session of the pageant informed, “Every year the contestants are brought here to make them aware about the happenings in our society. The visit is to inspire the contestants to do something good for the society.”
